Do you also think about how to keep yourself healthy during these unusual times? We would like to help you so that we can achieve our great common goal: to protect fellow human beings and not to be an unconscious carrier of viruses. A strong immune system is the best prevention against disease. All you have to do for this: Make conscious decisions every day that benefit your health. So that you can do that, we reveal our five best tips for strengthening the immune system, all of which work at home. Take care of yourself and stay healthy.
Food
You probably know by now how important a balanced diet is for your health. By eating the right foods, you can strengthen your immune system and protect your organism from pathogens. Especially in times like these, we recommend eating mainly plant-based foods, as they provide you with important fiber and phytochemicals. Dietary fiber is essential for your “good” intestinal bacteria, and at the same time ensures that the “bad” bacteria are minimized. What many do not know: Most immune cells are located in the small and large intestines, which is why our intestinal health has a major impact on our overall wellbeing.
Eat Your Meals At Intervals
As you probably know, intermittent fasting has many advantages. But did you know, that the immune system also benefits from it. What your immune system particularly benefits, however, are the autophagy processes that are set in motion by this. After about twelve to 14 hours, these ensure that cell waste is repaired, regenerated, and recycled. Only eat within eight hours – or even less – a day? For many, this sounds radical and unreasonable at first. However, we can assure you that your body will get used to the change.
Keep Your Body Temperature Warm
You probably already know that viruses don’t like heat. This is, among other things, one of the reasons why most people get sick more often during the cold times of the year. You can raise your body temperature a little with a hot shower or a very warm bath. You can “imitate” this state by taking a hot shower or bath right before going to bed. Another option is to drink hot tea in the evening or to take a hot water bottle to bed with you. Because: Sweating has a similar effect to the body’s own fever, and viruses don’t like that at all. It is also advisable to keep warm throughout the day. Hot drinks are also ideal here. They gently increase your body temperature through the throat area – exactly the place where viruses want to enter.
Movement
Movement is not only essential for a pain-free and flexible life it also strengthens our immune system. When we exercise, we release adrenaline – a hormone that induces our immune cells to multiply and become more active in the shortest possible time. Exercise also lowers chronic inflammation in the body.
Sleep
Getting enough sleep is just as important for a good immune system. During the day, it is mainly the innate immune system that works. During sleep, the body develops specialized antibodies such as T cells. They are an important part of the learned immune response. It is known that if you don’t get enough sleep, you don’t develop antibodies.
